INITION were commissioned by Digicom in Dubai with creating a crowd-pleasing virtual reality experience that takes users on a thrill-packed, height-themed spy mission at Burj Khalifa – the world’s tallest structure and UEA’s must-visit tourist attraction.
The interactive experience captures key elements from the Burj Khalifa in a thrilling adventure that transforms users into mission operatives who need to foil an impending cyber attack. How? By scaling the Burj Khalifa’s immense 828-metres to intercept an overhead satellite and save the day by uploading an anti-viral code.
The project entailed placing realtime CG inside a full 360 film of the surrounding environment.
Super high res footage was stitched together to build a full 360 16k frame using Autopano Giga software. Over 30 motion plates were shot, distorted and composited back over an equirectangular plate to bring the world alive. The result was an 8K 360 video background environment within the realtime VR experience.
A full base jump sequence was created using a mix of stabilised drone footage, 3D models of the Burj Khalifa and camera matched renders of the 360 environment jumping off the spire.
Rendered in 360 at 8K using Vray and 3ds Max. After Effects & Mocha VR was used for stabalisation, tracking and rig-removal.
