Responsibilities / All Aspects
So, I’ve always been a massive fan of FlightRadar24’s app, which lets you track planes in real-time.
I was using it the other day, and I started thinking about what an Apple Vision Pro version of the experience could look like. The ability to track and identify the world around you and overlay real-time graphical information is super exciting.
Additionally, being able to have direct communication with your headset to explore the world intuitively is a fascinating prospect.
MAKING OF
This was a fun personal piece to work on. I live under the flight path for Heathrow, so there are always planes flying overhead, hence the fascination with them. So the first step was to film some planes flying over, whilst also recording the live data from the FlightRadar24 app, that I could then use within this pieces.
Once I had the footage I went about the process of tracking the shot to generate a matched digital camera, and some nulls that I could use to place 3D content into the real world.
UI PANELS
Apple released a Spatial OS Figma board, that had a whole range of components, that I took and adjusted to suit my needs.
I added the majority of the copy within After Effects, so that I was able to animate it and have greater control.
ELEMENT 3D
I wanted to incorporate a large 3D model of the plane that was tracked in the space, as that is one of the main benefits of these mixed reality devices, so I used Element 3D within After Effects as this works with the in built cameras and render engine.
AI VOICE OVERS
I always feel a video works better if there is some form of narrative, so I wanted to introduce a couple of characters into the video, the user and the AI assistant.
I used https://elevenlabs.io/ to choose a couple of different AI voice actors and then fed them the individual lines that I needed. What's great about Eleven Labs, is that you can generate the same line over and over and each time the voice will come out slightly differently in the way that it pronounces the words, which allows you to get the right sentiment behind the words.
Although I did struggle when I tried to get the AI to laugh ;)
AI VISUALISTAION
I created an animated icon that came to life each time the headset spoke, to try and bring some additional personality and life to the voice.
